Help with first step on housing ladder in Rochdale

Posted on March 5th, 2012

Work has begun on a development of new high quality two, three and four bedroom homes close to Rochdale town centre.

Leading North West developer Seddon Homes is building up to 90 properties on land off Bridgefold Road. The first houses are available to buy now.

And in good news for Rochdale residents who thought that owning their own home might be beyond them, help to secure one of these spacious properties may be available.

Seddon Homes operates a range of initiatives to help making buying a home more affordable including the ‘First Buy’ scheme where the government and the house builder jointly provide a 20% loan to top up the first time buyer’s own deposit of 5%. This allows them to take out a mortgage for 75% of the property. Selected properties on the Rochdale development will be eligible for this scheme.

Councillor Linda Robinson, Rochdale Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Care and Housing, welcomed the opportunity this offers local people looking to set up home in Rochdale.

She said: “I’m delighted that some of these new homes are subject to the ‘First Buy’ scheme and hope that this will mean local people can afford to get on the property ladder.

“These properties increase the range of quality housing available in the borough and are close to the amenities on offer in Rochdale town centre.”

Denis Maddock, Sales and Marketing Director at Seddon Homes, is confident that interest will be keen.

“We are very excited about our new development in Rochdale as we are building a variety of new homes to suit a range of potential buyers. These properties will be sensibly priced and are extremely high quality, representing terrific value for money.

“The homes will be stylish, with full modern facilities, light and spacious and built to a good specification, including smart kitchens and bathrooms. This, coupled with the assistance we can provide in purchasing a property, makes it a very attractive proposition.”

The houses are being built on the site of a former tramway depot and Spotland Bridge dye works.

Details of prices should be available in late March. In the meantime, possible buyers can find out more and register their interest by visiting www.seddonhomes.co.uk  or calling 0845 456 9667.
