Making an offer on your new home!

Posted on April 22nd, 2016

Buying a home is probably going to be the biggest purchase you’ll make in your life, yet it’s been reported that female UK home buyers spend more time planning a dinner party menu than they do on deciding on which house to buy.

In actual fact they spend much more time on other smaller decisions than they do on home purchases! The study by HSBC bank discovered that it can take up to 115 hours to decide on a holiday destination yet only 26 hours are spent before making an offer on a house.

Surprisingly, 11% make an instant decision on a house within two minutes, but it can take 17 hours to decide on an outfit for a night out.

The study found that booking a holiday, setting a party menu, what to wear on a night out and even which pair of shoes to buy takes more time than deciding on making an offer for a house.

However, men aren’t all that much quicker either — booking a holiday takes 92 hours yet making an offer on a house taking around 26 hours. Thankfully, booking a holiday is the only activity that takes priority over buying a new home, with buying shoes and jeans only taking 16 and 13 hours respectively.

It’s argued that we make quicker decisions on our home choices as we feel inclined to act quickly due to the ever changing housing market so we feel we need to get the best deal in case the price rises.
