Easy Ways to Live a Healthier LifePosted on September 16th, 2018
We know how it is. You’ve been at work all week, you’re stressed, you’re tired, and you just want to go home and order a takeaway. We’re sure everyone feels that way at least once a week, and that’s completely understandable! Junk food is cheap, delicious and very addictive, which makes it difficult to resist when you’re hungry and exhausted. However, we all know that it’s not good for us. It’s important that we make the effort to look after our bodies. Although the hustle and bustle of everyday life can make healthy living hard, it certainly doesn’t have to be. We’ve put together a few easy ways to live a healthier life to help you along the way.
Keep fruit readily available
This tip is so simple, yet it works like a charm. If you like fruits such as bananas, apples, or anything with a tough skin, leave them in a fruit bowl for easy access. This will make it easier to choose fruit instead of an unhealthy snack purely because it is on display.
Carry around a refillable water bottle
How many times have you been out and bought a can of fizzy drink? Although it may be a good quick fix when you feel thirsty, fizzy drinks are full of sugar, chemicals and carbonation. All of these are terrible for your overall health. However, you can easily avoid them by bringing a refillable water bottle with you wherever you go. You’ll also save a ton of money since drinks are so expensive.
Eat your breakfast
Although the old tale of breakfast being the most important meal of the day may not be entirely true, it is still important. This is because breakfast kicks off your metabolism first thing in the morning. This gets your body ready for the day ahead. Not only is this good for weight loss, but also for those who tend to feel sluggish in the morning. Remember, your mind may be awake, but your body isn’t!
Get a good night’s sleep
We know, everyone and their aunt drums this one into your ears every other day, but it’s so true. A lack of sleep can cause a multitude of health problems like high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, and even depression. Your body needs sleep to heal itself and to process information from the day. If you don’t allow your brain a good 8 hours’ rest, then it cannot work properly and your body will suffer for it. Do yourself some good and get to bed early. This is by far the easiest way to live a healthier life, if you ask us!.
Carry healthy snacks with you
You can help to stop your snack-purchasing habit just by bringing your own! Buy a few small, air-tight food boxes and fill them with healthy snacks. A few ideas for you are fruit or veg, nuts, crackers, or plain popcorn (yes, popcorn can be healthy). Take these with you whenever you go out just in case you feel hungry between meals. This will help you to avoid all the sugary, unhealthy snack foods that line the shop shelves.
Get 30 minutes of exercise every day
With more and more of us living a sedentary lifestyle, fitting in some daily exercise has never been more important. Exercising helps to reduce blood pressure, improve sleep and circulation, plus a multitude of other health benefits. You don’t have to sweat it out in the gym either! Something as simple as a half-hour brisk walk will do, which you could easily accomplish on your work break.
Meal prep in bulk for the week
This tip is such a great time saver that makes healthy eating a whole lot easier. Prepare your lunches/dinners in bulk for the week ahead and simply refrigerate or freeze them for later. That way, when you come home from work, you can reheat the pre-prepared meals for a quick, healthy option.
We hope you enjoyed reading, and that these tips help you to live a healthier life. They may seem daunting at first but you can start with 1 and simply work your way up. Don’t try to do too much at once. Healthy living should be a gradual lifestyle change, not some quick, fad diet – we all know those never last anyway!
