Feature walls – wallpaper vs paint
Posted on March 1st, 2018Just moved into your new home? You now have a clean, blank canvas ready for you to add your own stamp on to! But, it can be overwhelming and the hundreds of Pinterest boards you’ve created can be a little confusing.
A feature wall is a great place to start and you can add to the room from there. We’ve picked out some of this year’s top paint and wallpaper trends for you to peruse.
So, make a cup of tea, sit back, relax and read on for some feature wall inspiration!
Paint
- Moody colours
Neutrals have been the colour of choice until now but, we’re getting braver and bolder with our colour choices; making room for moody and brooding tones such as violet, navy and emerald. These tones sit especially well with velvet furniture – another big trend this year.
- Rich earthy tones with cultural influences
Every year Dulux predicts the big colour trends and this year one of their mood boards is Kinship; ‘a celebration of cultural heritage with fresh, contemporary overtures and colours that have been brought together to lift you up and cocoon you in’. Think Moroccan influences combined with eclectic folk patterns and plenty of texture. It could be a bit of a mish mash, but somehow it works to create a really cosy and grounded space.
- Sorbet pinks and turquoises
Another one of Dulux’s trends is Escapade; ‘tones of pale mint, teal and blue promise plenty of light-hearted fun. Bursts of mustard yellow cut through the tonal colour effect. Shades of pink range from pale and soft to saturated and bold’. Think ice cream sorbet colours, combined with ‘70s geometrics and tropical prints. This trend is for the brave, but as with any of these trends you can go all out, or just incorporate small elements of it into your new home. Either way, it’s your choice! One of the top reasons to buy your own home!
Wallpaper
For years, wallpaper has suffered a bad reputation for being “old-fashioned” – but now it’s back and it’s better than ever! It can take the role of artwork and is used to add depth, colour and different moods to a space.
- Global influences
Global inspired prints and textures are a big interior trend to look out for this year, combining colours and patterns from African and Indian cities and palaces. This Cole & Son Rajapur wallpaper is a great way to incorporate earthy tones and intricate shapes into your home, whilst keeping it simple and understated.
- Tropical and botanical prints
If you’ve already read our top trends for 2018 blog, you know that tropical prints are big news! If they are a bit too bold for you, why not try a more delicate, floral or gentle botanical print? We love this stylish palm leaf on a pastel pink background. For something more traditional, take a look at this Dunelm botanical wallpaper.
- Metallic accents
As you probably already know, metallics aren’t going anywhere. This metallic heart wallpaper from Next is super cute and cool, it’s perfect for a girl’s bedroom and will still be stylish in years to come.
