Seddy Teddy’s Tour of Britain Adventure
Posted on September 9th, 2016Tuesday 6th September proved to be a huge day for all of Cheshire East as the Tour of Britain came to Congleton, Alsager and Sandbach amongst other locations. What was evident at each, was the sheer level of activity and enthusiasm shown by the local communities as thousands turned out to cheer on the riders.
On what was thankfully a warm and dry day for this wonderful sporting spectacle, our mascot Seddy Teddy went on an adventure of his own to discover the magic that was the Tour of Britain Stage 3!
Starting in Congleton at 11am, the Tour of Britain Stage 3 had everyone excited, including the Seddon team! The Town Hall looked splendid in the sunshine and was fantastically decorated in bunting which added to the occasion. It seemed as though no one from Congleton was holding back as crowds gathered down the high street to catch a glimpse of their cycling icons.
As the anticipation grew for the start of the race, Seddy Teddy could be seen dancing his way down the high street handing out flags, water and water bottles to the spectators. Everyone wanted to have their photo taken with Seddy!
As Seddy made his way around to the bus station where the cyclists were congregating, there was plenty to see. A brass band was entertaining the crowds; a dance troop were encouraging a flash mob and Silk FM were broadcasting from the stage… which brings us onto Seddy’s next adventure of the day.
Whilst Denis Maddock, Sales and Marketing Director for Seddon Homes, was being interviewed regarding the company’s support of the event, Seddy was keeping the crowds of Congleton entertained with yet more dancing on the stage!
Denis explained how pleased the company was to sponsor this stage of the Tour of Britain with its underlying values to support the community as much as possible.
It was soon almost time for the race to begin, with many in the crowd waving their flags handed out by Seddy Teddy. But now, for Seddy, this meant a quick dash of his own to get to Sandbach in time for the riders passing through.
Seddy made a quick detour to our Campion Point development on Congleton Road in Sandbach to have his picture taken with our own golden bike before making his way down into the town to cheer on the race with the growing crowds.
A walk through the town showed that cycling fever had spread far beyond Congleton at the start of the race as everyone was excited for the race to pass through Sandbach! The Town Crier was crying, children were excitedly waving their flags and local businesses and charities turned out in force to make sure the day was a success for the town.
When the race did come through the town, it was a fantastic sight. Everyone was cheering and roaring the cyclists on as they hurtled down the street at a frightening pace. However, it was a case of “blink and you’ve missed it” as the race passed through Sandbach in a matter of seconds!
It was only after the cyclists had passed by that people started to chatter again “Did you see the speed they were going at?” “Did you see Bradley Wiggins?” were heard as Seddy and the team headed home.
Seddy did see Bradley Wiggins. Seddy managed to get a photo with Mr Wiggins. And it seems that Bradley spotted Seddy as he shot by looking straight at us!
The Tour of Britain has definitely put Cheshire East on the map for a number of reasons. Congleton, Sandbach and Alsager did themselves proud as the local community poured out in support of the race. As a televised event, the Tour of Britain has helped to show what a fantastic area East Cheshire is to live in and has helped raise the profile of cycling at the same time.
