Seasonal produce to cook up in your brand new contemporary kitchen

Posted on August 17th, 2017

It feels as though summer hasn’t even started, but in reality, there are only a few weeks left! We haven’t had the best weather, so why not spend some time in your amazing new kitchen experimenting cooking up some new family favourites with seasonal produce? You could even get the kids involved or host a dinner party!

Amazing Apples

First up, the humble apple. Although we see them on the shelves all year round, many British apples are at their best in August. There’s a never ending list of recipe possibilities, but we think the ultimate apple recipe has to be an apple pie of course!

Our new homes at Crofton will be fitted with our highest spec kitchens ever, with extras included as standard, such as Neff ‘slide and hide’ bake off style ovens! Nothing says ‘home’ more than the smell of freshly baked apple pie…ahh.

Peach party

Peaches actually originated from China and became a rare treat during Queen Victoria’s reign. Lucky for us they’re much easier to get hold of these days! Peaches aren’t just a sweet treat either, if you’re having guests over try creating an easy no cook antipasti platter – it takes minimal time and effort but is sure to impress. You can mix and match whatever you fancy but we suggest: peaches cut into slices, prosciutto, rocket and some parmesan!

Cherry chat

When you move into your new home you’re bound to have friends and family popping in for a cup of tea and these cherry madeleines from Delicious Magazine are the perfect accompaniment.

You’ll need:

A madeleine tray

100g butter

100g plain flour

2 free range eggs

100g golden caster sugar

Lemon zest

150g cherries

Whisk the eggs and sugar together then add all of the ingredients and leave to stand for 20 minutes, add the cherries and bake for 8-9 minutes.

Now we’ve satisfied your sweet tooth, here’s some ideas for the savoury lovers.

Sweetcorn saviour

Corn may be an unnoticed staple in our diets but this affordable veg is packed with antioxidants and is great for promoting eye health too.

For a quick meal, perfect for a weeknight, griddle a chicken breast with oil, lime juice, garlic and paprika. Serve with corn on the cob and a homemade potato salad. These summery flavours will definitely perk up your palate!

Our new homes in Salterforth have modern and stylish, rigid built kitchens and you can even choose which styles and colours you want for your new home! (depending on build stage) The kitchens at Southbeck will be complete with Bosch appliances, perfect for cooking up all your new culinary delights.

Awesome aubergine

Did you know, aubergines are actually related to tomatoes and potatoes!

Fancy a guilt free snack? Drizzle some olive oil over a sliced aubergine, bake for 25 minutes then add some tomatoes and mozzarella and bake for a further 5 minutes. This healthy and quick dish is great for feeding unexpected guests when you haven’t done a food shop yet!

Cucumber cocktails

Planning to host a girls’ night? Try getting your friends involved in a ‘make your own cocktail’ evening to try some of these refreshing cucumber drinks they’re so in season! Try out this recipe from Martha Stewart:

Peel, remove seeds and finely chop cucumber — then puree or blend

Add mint, sugar, ice, lime juice and shake

Add the cucumber juice, vodka and Cointreau then shake

Decorate with cucumber peel and sip away!

The Oakworth is an amazing 5 bedroom home, so has plenty of room for your guests to stay over. The contemporary and open plan kitchen is great for entertaining as it means you can chat to your guests as you cook. The French doors let in plenty of light and flow fabulously to the enclosed garden.

Cool crab

Want to resist the temptation of ordering a takeaway but still have a fun family meal? Why not make your own thai buffet and get the kids involved, this crab fried rice makes a great side dish!

To begin heat oil in a wok or frying panel then add chilli, spring onion, garlic and ginger and fry.

Add rice, beaten egg, white crab meat and pak choi and warm for 2 minutes.

Spoon into a bowl and garnish…voila!

If these seasonal meal ideas don’t make you want to get cooking in a brand new kitchen, we don’t know what will! Depending on build stage, you can choose your dream kitchen for your new home and even add optional extras.
